Our Allen Say Author Study

         Do you like to read books? Well Room 17 has been reading some great books by Allen Say. If you don’t know who Allen Say is, I will tell you. He is an amazing author that writes memoirs from his family’s life! But he’s not just an outstanding  author, he also does his own illustrations too! Some of the books that we read were, Tree of Cranes, Tea with Milk,  Grandfather’s Journey,  Emma’s Rug,and The Bicycle Man. He also has fantastic similes and he had a lot of similes in one of our favorite books The Bicycle Man.  One of my favorite similes from this book was “He looked like a small boy greeting a giant.” To find out more about his wonderful books, please visit our Allen Say page and enjoy our summaries!

American Symbols Reports

     In science this quarter we have been studying all about sources of energy, including the sun, food, fuel, and batteries.  We put batteries to the test by making electrical circuit quiz boards.  These battery powered simple circuits were exciting to make and display at our Museum Night on December 15th.  You can test your knowledge of circuits, batteries, conductors, and how they all work on Mr. Blobz Guide to Electrical Circuits. Room 17 Reminders:

HOMEWORK FOLDERS:
Homework  Folders go home on Monday and should be returned on Friday. Spelling Tests are on Fridays, so be sure to take a practice test on Thursday nights at home.

BOOK CAMPAIGN:
Please bring any books to school that you read and finish at home.  These books will be added to your Benchmark Card for credit to your reading goal. GO READERS!!!

MATH FACTS:
Practice your math facts with flashcards for 10 minutes each night and you will be AMAZED at how you will improve your speed on your Time Tests.

SPIRIT DAY:
Fridays are our HAMILTON SPIRIT DAY.  Wear your Hamilton t-shirt to school on Friday to show your spirit!
